Green Beer was first invented in 1914 by Dr. Thomas Curtin. He colored the beer for a St Paddy's Party at the Schnerer Club of Morrisania. This harkens back to the tradition of "drowning the Shamrock" where people would put actual shamrocks in there drinks and consume them for luck.
