Remember the Maine
The name of this drink refers to the incident that began the
Spanish-American War. In 1898 the USS Maine sank in Havana harbor, prompting
the slogan "Remember the Maine!" The recipe comes from Charles
H. Baker Jr.'s "The Gentleman's
Companion," published in 1939.
