Italian Chocolate Cookies
In Italy, these cookies are known as mostaccioli
cookies and vary in ingredients,
shape and legend depending on the region. Originally they were made to
celebrate the grape harvest, using grape
must (fresh squeezed grape juice) as a sweetener. It seems the
desired outcome is the common thread between the many variations: a chewy,
cake-like holiday cookie.
