American Style Waffles

Waffles are consumed worldwide, especially in France, Scandinavia, Netherlands, the United States, and Belgium. There are over a dozen varieties of waffles in Belgium alone. American style waffles differ from European varieties because of the addition of baking powder. Other varieties rely on yeast or whipped egg whites as the sole leavener.
